considering facebook

I've been going back and forth for MONTHS about whether or not I want to open a facebook account.

Here's my cons list:
1. privacy - or the lack thereof
2. setting up a new account; it always takes me SO long because I'm really not that great on computers (seriously, just ask Jason how clueless I can be! He's always so nice about it, though.) Which is probably another reason why I'm afraid to jump into it; do I really know what I'm getting myself into?
3. time issue - do we really need MORE reasons to be on the computer? (especially as moms)

And, my pros list:
1. a great way to reconnect with old friends
2. provides an opportunity to keep up with those who might not be big bloggers but love facebooking

I'm interested to hear your opinions about facebook. Do you have a facebook account? Do you like it as much or more than blogging? And any other suggestions you have to offer!

I hate that it's another reason to be on the computer. I find myself checking it way too often.

It's faster to me than blogging. BUT blogging is more personal to me. FB is the quick version.

You can make it as private as you want. Just make sure you set all of the privacy settings. Add only friends that you want. etc.

I do LOVE that I have reconnected with all of my friends from highschool that I haven't talked to in ten years. I have even reconnected with people that I went to elementary school with that I haven't seen since 4th grade. That is the best part for me.

Only my LDS friends have blogs, so you are right on that part. . . it's nice to be able to keep up with friends that DON'T have blogs.

I don't think it's really too hard to set up. I figured it out, and I am not all that computer savvy :)

That being said, I don't know how much longer I will keep my facebook account. It's been fun to catch up with everyone, but I am getting tired of both blogging and facebook (not that I do either all that often). Maybe it's just hormones :) But I spend too much time on the computer, and I either need to learn how to balance reality and my "virtual" worlds, or eliminate the unnecessary.

I like to think that i am anti Facebook. But i used to be anti blog. Mark has an account to keep in touch with his brothers, but i find myself checking on a few people.
I prefer wasting time away on the computer with a blog. Like Brooke said, it's more personal. And, it is addicting and another distraction.

Like Brooke said, privacy really isn't an issue with FB. You can make it as private as you want and have super tight privacy settings, and you can organize your friends in groups and decide which level of privacy each group can have, etc.

REconnecting is very nice.

I find Facebook kind of boring, and I don't get why people say they are addicted. I just check in once every couple of days and look at my news feed. I used to do it daily, but I'm really cutting back on computer time.

I am pretty anti-FB. I do have an account. The thing I hate most is that I don't check it everyday... or even every week. So it takes me HOURS to "catch up" with everyone. It can suck you in and waste so much time - in my opionion. I much perfer to blog! I can see more in depth to my friends lives and vise versa. The only problem with that is finding everyone's blogs!

It's really easy to set up, basically just your name and email, I just set one up for my dad yesterday;)
And, I thought that it was going to take away more time from my little blaykers, but it really doesn't. I spend more time on our blog.
AND, since we don't have all of our family close by, it's nice to post pics on there to keep everyone updated!
p.s. we'll be up there soon! Good luck Sat, we're excited for you:)

I love facebook for all the reasons as everyone else- I don't think any of my high school friends have blogs so it's fun to reconnect and show off the girls and such. Plus it's kinda like a daily phone call with a friend!

Go for it! What's the harm, if you don't like it then delete it!

The only con I can think of is trying to keep up with everyone-it's impossible! Plus, sometimes I don't want to be friends with people and I feel bad declining them- I just don't think it's necessary to be a friend just because you "know" someone! Ya know? I would definitely accept you as a friend though!

Love and miss you!

i like facebook from a singles point of view. people post party invites, and put up our pictures from our trips and fun. it's also nice to be able to keep in touch, and you can control your privacy really well actually. i have a limited profile list. if i put anyone on that list, they can't see my wall or my photos. just my basic information....which pretty much is my name and a profile pic. i like it as an augment to blogging. i have a fan page for cherryteacakes for example, and my twitter account is tied to the fan page so i don't have to tweet. it's nice, but it's not for everyone.

I'm reading your past posts and came across this one. I, for one, LOVE Facebook. I have found SOOO MANY people that I would never have found! I am just getting back into the blog (we'll see how and if that lasts) and I can upload my blog postings to FB. Only those who I want to see my info, get to. Give it a shot - you can always delete it. You can set a time that you go online to look too. Good luck and have fun!!
